9 Ways to Put the “Giving” in Thanksgiving

Giving Back

At The Novel Tree, we value supporting our community as well as the environment. We are committed to giving back through food drives, donations and other projects. With Black (Green) Friday coming up, we thought we would put together a list of products and companies that share the same values as we do.

  1. O Wines: Located in Woodinville, WA, O Wines has the mission to fund scholarships and help young women improve their lives through education. Every purchase helps send low income, capable young women to college through their scholarship program. Now that’s what we call drinking to a good cause!

  2. Seattle Chocolates: Who doesn’t like chocolate? Seattle Chocolates is making the fight against hunger the centerpiece of their 2015 every chocolate gives campaign to raise awareness and generate donations to local food banks. To date, Seattle Chocolates has donated more than 500,000 servings of fresh healthy food to families in need.

  3. Glassybaby: Light a stylish candle for a good cause. Glassybaby started in our very own Green Lake neighborhood in Seattle, WA. 10% from the sale of every Glassybaby is donated directly to the Glassybaby white light fund to give financial and emotional assistance to those in need.

  4. Solo Eyewear: Seattle has the highest sunglass per person ratio in the country. If you are in need of a new pair head on over to Solo Eyewear. Their handcrafted sunglasses are made with recycled bamboo and each pair purchased funds eye care for people in need.

  5. STATE: A new backpack is always handy!  Grab a new STATE backpack and for every bag purchased, STATE hand-delivers a backpack - packed with essential tools for success - to an American child in need.

  6. ASPCA Pet Palls Pillow Covers: For the pet lover in your life grab a new pillow cover! Their cheerful pillows feature dogs and cats with a cause. For each pillow cover sold, $5 of the purchase price will be donated to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA). Best of all, they adorable and are on sale!

  7. West Elm: West Elm has partnered up with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital this holiday season and they have plenty of glam gifts for the home. 50% of specific products go back to fight childhood cancer.

  8. prAna: Plenty of apparel products are on our list as well from prAna. This holiday season prAna will contribute $10,000 to Outdoor Outreach to help promote the transformative power of the outdoors for youth. Show your support with our Outdoor Outreach-inspired collection of products at prana.com.

  9. Washington Discover Pass: If you aren’t into the material things, head on over to the Washington State Parks website. The Discover Pass offers you access to millions of acres of state recreation lands in Washington. When you buy the Discover Pass, you are helping to keep the state’s wonderful outdoor recreation sites open and accessible to the public.

No matter what you, your friends and family are into, there’s a present on this list for you! Make this holiday shopping season rewarding by supporting local business or those that give back to their community! Happy Thanksgiving from your friends at The Novel Tree.
